The Caps can wait

As news reports show northern cities digging out from a blizzard and dealing with frigid temperatures, I'm dealing with the "cold" down here in Florida.

Though our daily high may not break 60 degrees, there's another reason why I'm not hounding the Washington Capitals today. Someone is home from school, sidelined by a runny nose, a persistent cough and a temperature of 102 degrees.

I think this whole cold front must be sweeping the country. In my hometown of Cleveland, highs have been in the single digits with about 18 inches of snow. And even here in Texas, it's only 19 degrees right now with about a quarter-inch of the white stuff on the ground.

One of my colleagues at the paper was in Cleveland earlier this week. She said the city got 16 inches in eight hours.

I'm jealous, too, that you had snow in Texas. I ceratinly didn't enjoy shoveling it, but I must admit to missing it.
